Uptown Acres

Our project at Uptown Acres reimagines a City of Long Beach property with an existing shelter into a bold vision for collaboration between city agencies, regional organizations, and health and housing providers.

The project delivers 192 affordable housing units, including 100 units of supportive housing for individuals with special needs and bridge housing.

At the heart of the design is an internal, walkable network of open spaces, linking the project’s three phases and creating connections to the future Hamilton River Park. These interconnected paths weave homes and spaces across the site, including a federally qualified health clinic, teaching and healthy food community kitchen, and a hub of other community-serving spaces.

Transparency and landscaping extend the project’s vision of connectivity and healthy living into the interiors, while angled housing structures enhance airflow and create visual connections across the site. The rebuilt shelter and bridge housing program anchors the rear of the site, framing private outdoor areas and offering integrated supportive services, making Uptown Acres a place where housing, health, and community thrive together.
