"As a transplant, reading her has deepened my understanding of the state's history—something I aspire to consider in my architectural and design work. Her resilience and dedication to her craft, even in the face of personal tragedy, are truly inspiring,"says our Associate, Noelle White. For Women’s History Month, we asked our studio to share the women who inspire them. Throughout March, we'll highlight these conversations, featuring quotes from the women who shaped their thinking and the reflections they sparked.
“I’m deeply inspired by Rigoberta Menchú, a K’iche’ Maya woman and activist whose lifelong advocacy for the rights of Indigenous people, justice, and cultural preservation highlights the importance of community-centered work,” says Diana Perez.
For studio members Diana Perez and Henry Moseley, Rigoberta Menchu stands out for her influence on both their lives and approach to design. Henry adds, “She continues her activism by bringing awareness for issues including political and economic inequality and climate change.”
As Women’s History Month ends, the conversations prompted within our studio continue to carry through in our work. Diana’s final thoughts echo our purpose: “Her dedication to amplifying marginalized voices encourages me to approach design with the same care and respect, ensuring that the spaces we create become tools for empowerment and inclusion.
