My Angel Supportive Veterans' Housing

54 Units Affordable & Supportive Housing

My Angel is a 54-unit permanent supportive housing complex in North Hills, Los Angeles, developed by LA Family Housing and LA County Homeless Initiative to house veterans and other chronically homeless individuals. The project, which includes two courtyards, meeting/conference, lobby, and waiting rooms as well as common amenities and case management and support services, focuses on resident well-being.

My Angel integrates a multifaceted sustainability and resilience strategy that reduces operational energy use, manages water responsibly, and enhances long-term durability while serving community needs. Through on-site renewable energy generation, high-efficiency systems, and nature-based infrastructure, the project delivers both environmental performance and resilience value.

Key Sustainability Strategies & Achievements:

On-site solar array (47 PV panels / 25.4 kW) paired with36.9 kWh Sol-Ark battery storage provides ~20% of building energy use and enables load-shifting to reduce high-cost peak energy demand.

Battery system supports resilience by powering the community room as a cooling/backup hub during extreme heat events and utility outages.

High-efficiency JA8-rated LED lighting reduces energy consumption, extends fixture lifespan, and maintains high-quality illumination throughout the building.

Passive design elements — including open-air corridors and daylight-filled courtyards — improve natural ventilation and reduce dependence on mechanical systems.

Low-impact development (LID) stormwater planters (EPIC system) retain, filter, and slow-release stormwater onsite, supporting drought-tolerant landscaping and improving water quality.
