Terrazas del Sol

300 Permanent Supportive Housing Units, Community Rooms and Services, Public Park

Terrazas del Sol is a 300-unit affordable and permanent supportive housing project that transforms an industrial landscape into a thriving, connected community. At its core, a new linear public open space links previously disconnected residential neighborhoods, establishing a pedestrian connection to the Civic Center Complex, Rosewood Park, and Aquatics Center, while extending amenities and supportive services to residents and the public alike.

The architecture reinforces this urban gesture by organizing a hierarchy of semi-public and private open spaces, including parks, terraces, and courtyards. These layered environments animate the public realm, foster social connection, and provide supportive spaces that integrate people and place.

The three-story residential program is arranged as an urban courtyard block atop a 12-foot podium. Massing along Washington Boulevard is modulated to break down the building scale, connect to internal courtyards, and create a series of terraces along the southern edge, resulting in a cohesive, human-scaled environment that balances privacy, activity, and community engagement.
