Designed to support Bakersfield College’s growing Career Technical Education program, the Culinary Arts Lab provides a purpose-built instructional environment that mirrors the performance, safety, and operational requirements of a modern commercial kitchen. Practice, in collaboration with food service consultant Ricca Design Studios, is designing a specialized culinary teaching facility featuring commercial-grade cooking stations, food preparation areas, demonstration kitchens, and integrated support spaces that accommodate hands-on instruction and multiple teaching formats.
This project demonstrates Practice’s experience delivering specialized food service and culinary education facilities that integrate complex building systems, operational efficiency, and instructional flexibility. It reflects our ability to coordinate closely with food service consultants to create facilities that support both educational objectives and industry standards.
The design carefully integrates commercial kitchen systems, including ventilation hoods, gas service, domestic hot water, sanitary drainage, and food service equipment, to create a safe, efficient, and highly functional learning environment. Through close collaboration with Ricca Design Studios and the District, the project balances commercial kitchen performance with adaptable instructional spaces that prepare students for careers in the culinary and hospitality industries while supporting long-term operational success.
